Since 1803, the Chéty family of Château Haut-Colombier has been dedicated to winemaking on the dominant hills of the Gironde estuary. All of the stages of winemaking are carried out at the Château. The Domaine covers 54 hectares, the soil is clay/limestone and the average age of the vines is 30 years. Each parcel is individually managed whilst respecting nature – it is all about integrated protection. The grapes are harvested once mature and the winemaking combines modern and traditional techniques with fermentation taking place in concrete vats to maturation in barrels.
The Cotes de Blaye appellation is situated on the right bank of the Garonne River, just opposite Pauillac. Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec and Merlot vineyards are located on the banks of the river where the soil’s high iron content contributes to the rich structure, flavour and longevity of the wines. Château Haut-Colombier is the perfect example of the use of Malbec in the blending of their Bordeaux wine.
